Canoeing the Falls

15th January 2008 - Ystradfellte Falls - Brecon Beacons

It was a lucky break in the weather. After a night of torrential rain with flood warnings all over Wales, nature decided to give us a break and stop raining for a few hours. My nephew Adam and I took the opportunity to visit the waterfalls in peak condition, although we were told when we got there that the river had already dropped by 6ft in the two hours since it had stopped raining. This didn't surprise me, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we couldn't have gotten there any earlier.

On arriving at Pont Melin Fach we met Tom and Stuart, two adventurous canoeists from Oxford who wanted to take advantage of the conditions. It was their first time on this river.
